The little prince was just a kid, a little boy looking for a new toy.
When he found it, he took the old toy away, and played with his new toy.
He abandoned his rose because he was bored so he needed a new toy.
The huge difference here is that the little prince was mature enough to admit that he was too young to know how to love.
You didn't get this maturity yet.
